<i>Actually</i>in Nordic tweets

‘Native-like’ use of discourse markers is a good indicator language proficiency. Analysing four subcorpora English-language tweets posted by Twitter users from the Nordic countries Finland, Norway, and Sweden, this study considers effects discursive context L1 influence on correlation between semantic function sentence position marker actually. The shows that both predictors appear to have significant effect. A more formal predicts standard punctuation, distribution pragmatic functions, placement marker, reflected in preferred position, with substantial difference observed Finnic Germanic L1s. Furthermore, while actually significantly frequent colloquial than spoken English, frequency lower line English constrained contexts.
